Premarital Assessment & Counseling: This type of counseling is best for both engaged couples, and couples considering engagement. The research shows that couples who receive premarital education and/or counseling reduce their risk of divorce, sometimes significantly. Premarital counseling and education will build a solid foundation to build a successful, loving, and fun marriage upon. You will learn the strengths and growth areas for your own relationship, keys to a strong and loving relationship, and warning signs that your relationship may need a check-up.
Lauren Kaufmann, MA, LCMHCS is a trained facilitator of PREPARE/ENRICH, which has been used by over 3 million couples for more than 30 years, and has been studied extensively to be both valid and reliable. You will complete the online assessment and then receive a workbook that goes along with your assessment results in our sessions together. In going over your assessment results and the workbook, you will learn your relationships unique strengths and growth areas, and learn and practice skills to strengthen your relationship.
Premarital Counseling: Counseling without the assessment is available if you have specific issues you desire to work on, or perhaps you have already had an assessment elsewhere and were referred to therapy from there.
Premarital Education: Lauren Kaufmann, MA, LCMHCS provides premarital education that builds upon research conducted by Gary Chapman (The Five Love Languages) and John Gottman (Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work) which will help you to identify your primary Love Languages, learn how to speak your partner's Love Language, learn the keys to a successful marriage, and the warning signs that may indicate your relationship needs a check-up.
Premarital education classes or groups are also available for high school and college students (please contact The Mindful Planner for more information on how to set this up).
Family Counseling: Lauren Kaufmann, MA, LCMHCS also provides premarital family counseling for when premarital issues have an impact outside the couple getting married. Often marriage brings up issues within a couple's family of origin related to religion, customs, roles, and family ties. Counseling can help you, your partner, and your parents and/or siblings to work through these issues to have a healthy and happy marriage. It can also help support blended families prepare for the changes your marriage might bring.

We had a great experience working with Lauren using the prepare/enrich assessment. The questions were practical and we appreciated Lauren's open, friendly, and non-judgmental approach. We would definitely recommend working with her.
