Lauren Kaufmann, MA, LCMHCS: I draw from a variety of theoretical backgrounds when engaging in the therapeutic relationship. I primarily draw from Adlerian perspectives, Choice Theory, and Positive Psychology. I have some training in transactional analysis, as well as training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). When engaged in couples counseling, I utilize my training in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), along with the above mentioned orientations.
Though this is not a "theoretical orientation", I value the role of homework in both therapy and in supervision. Homework has a unique way of cultivating growth into your personal, professional, and social life. Homework can be official, like a worksheet, or something you do and report back how you felt, journaling or creating art. Most often, the homework "assigned" is spontaneous and unique to you! Which leads to another "theoretical orientation" - valuing spontaneity and humor!
